The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara, says said he would float a new political alliance known as the Zebra Coalition to ensure that the Rivers South -East Senatorial District completes 8 years or two terms as governor of the state
He insisted that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s home zone, must be allowed to produce the next governor in 2027 adding that the election should be an opportunity for Rivers people to reaffirm the principles of justice, equity and fairness.
Fubara made these known during a radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt, said the Zebra Coalition would “galvanise political support around the people’s centre blueprint for a new Rivers State where governance is driven by the needs and aspirations of the people.”
He did not say how many political parties would be part of the coalition, nor draw a parallel between it and the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition, which has as many as five parties in its fold.
Fubara maintained that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure, describing it as a matter of honouring the political understanding handed down by the founding fathers of the state.
He said the principle of rotation should not be reduced to partisan politics or individual ambition, but respected as an arrangement that gives every senatorial district a sense of belonging and confidence in the Rivers project.
“If we truly believe in justice, equity and fairness, then Rivers South-East must complete its eight years. We must keep faith with the understanding of our forefathers.”
Fubara, however, stressed that the moment calls for more than political rotation, urging all Rivers people to come together beyond party, ethnic and senatorial divides to take back ownership of the state and reset the system.
He said the objective should be to build a government that is responsible, responsive, accountable and prosperous, with the interest of Rivers people at the centre of governance.
“This is the time for Rivers people to come together. Let us use this opportunity to take ownership of our state, reset the system and build a government that listens, responds and delivers prosperity to our people.”
He added that his message, “Let’s Get It Right,” was not simply a campaign slogan, but a call for a new political and governance conversation in Rivers State.
“This is not about one man. It is about all of us and the future we want for Rivers State.”
The YPP candidate, who said he would serve only one term if elected governor in 2027, further unveiled his proposed Fair Development Agenda, focused on job creation, agriculture, the blue economy and welfare for persons living with disabilities.
On security, Fubara promised a systematic response to insecurity, including what he described as an emergency approach to restoring safety and stability across the state.
He said a broader objective was to unite Rivers people and reset governance towards building a responsible, responsive and prosperous Rivers State.
