The senator representing Rivers West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Ipalibo Banigo has rejected her disqualification from the senatorial primaries by the party’s screening committee.
Addressing her supporters at Degema, headquarters of Degema Local Government Area of the state yesterday, the former Deputy Goveror of Rivers State called on the national leadership of APC to right the wrongs.
“God is in control; everything will be alright. In fact, the point is that sometimes people don’t understand national politics. They don’t understand that it is in national politics that you have to bring our your best so that you can bring the best also back to your state. What will determine what you get is this kind of people you send there to represent you.
“By this, I am also pleading to our great national party, the All Progressives Congress to look into this matter and to do the right thing. I am sure they are capable of putting the records right.
“I don’t want you people to be agitated at all. But, when the time comes, we will still do the needful and God will do what he has to do,” she said.
Meanwhile, the senator representing Rivers East senatorial district, Senator Allwell Onyesoh was returned unopposed as APC senatorial candidate for the district.
Also returned unopposed were former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, and the Rivers State Waste Management Authority (RWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah for Rivers West senatorial district and Chief Barry Nwara for Rivers South-East senatorial district.
Our correspondent reports that there was large turn out of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in various centres across Rivers State as the party conducted it’s senatorial primaries.
Banigo who served as Deputy to Nyesom Wike between 2015 to 2023 is repoerted to by sympathetic to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara in her disqualification suffered the same fate as other allies of Fubara in the House of Assembly and House of Representatives who were also disqualified from participating in their respective primaries.
